José Miguel Valdivia starts his career in Fashion in the late eighties, creating both a successful line of casual wear for men and a shop, both under the label Scaramouche, in Lima, Peru.
In 1990, attended the Institut Français de la Mode in Paris, with a double scholarship, by the French Government (AFAA - French Association for Artistic Action) and by the Yves Saint Laurent Couture House of Paris, where he would later have a professional internship as an Assistant at the Rive Gauche Studio Homme of the Saint Laurent House.
Since his return to Peru, as Designer, Jose Miguel Valdivia divides his time between the Made to measure Atelier of apparel for Men and Women (including bridal gowns and groom tailoring), and the Jose Miguel Valdivia Pret a Porter Collections, which he creates with a distinct style. It becomes a sort of fashion syncretism, searching both from the past as well as the future, from the multiple cultures he has observed in his travels, from the city itself, and from folklore. He contrasts materials and shapes in unconventional ways but is always driven by a concern for comfort, cleanliness and elegance.
He has featured his collections in various events and international trade shows in Latina America, United States, and Europe. His most significant contributions include the Magic Show in Las Vegas, the SIMM in Madrid, the Salon du Pret a Porter in Paris, the Ethical Fashion Show in Paris.
He works continuously for different projects to support the development of artisans and small businesses within the fashion industry in Peru. As well as being involved in the promotion of Peruvian Alpaca and Vicuna, the finest fibers from the Peruvian Mountains.
